When did you arrive at the Northern Warehouse? March 2004 How has the Northern Warehouse helped you as an artist? First off, it has offered me this enormous working space to create art. That alone forces me to take advantage of the space by producing work and displaying work. Simply being surrounded by other creative minds who are here to create art, music, poetry....is inspiring all on its own. What projects are you currently working on? I have been working on a series of works inspired by city life and the search for identity in an environment that can cause simultaneous isolation and suffocation. On the side, I am starting on a collaborative design project for a friend/musician’s album cover. Describe a recent completed project...what was challenging and/or gratifying about it? I was involved in a group exhibit at Evoke Gallery titled Art In 5, in which each artist was given the same topic and five days to conceptualize and create a piece based on the topic. I created a painting on an extremely tight timeline which was quite challenging, but working under that time pressure forced me to release a lot of creativity and spontaneity into the piece. Who or what inspires you creatively? People. City life. Music. Other local artists hard at work. Even if I’m not painting, I’m constantly observing life and soaking in all the energy, imagery, chaos, and beauty that surrounds me. The wheels are always turning, just waiting to capture that next image on canvas. I’m inspired by everything, really. Anything else you would like people to know about you? I’m always interested in meeting other artists in hopes to collaborate on projects, shows, ideas....So if you’re looking to merge your creative mind with another, contact me! |
